Chapter One: The Marionette of the LabyrinthI don't know how I got to this city, but it's all I've ever known. There must be something wrong with me, because I can't access my memories or personal history. The streets are covered in a thick fog and the people here all walk around like zombies. When they get close to me, their eyes turn into a deep shade of red and they start growling in a loud voice unlike any human noise that I've ever heard before in my life. I don't know how to escape this place, and I'm starting to think that I never will.I've been here for a little over two weeks now, and about a month ago I first saw them. They were going towards the city center, going from one district to another. The first time that I saw them was a bit scary because they looked like any other person out on the streets. It was only when they began walking toward me did I realize that these people weren't human at all. It's as if their bodies were made from some other material, but their eyes were still human, as sad as that sounds. Their eyes were pitch black and their bodies looked slimy, even though they were walking upright. When I got within a few feet of them, they stood up straight and began speaking to me. They sounded like no human could possibly understand me, but I could understand them just fine. The thing that worried me the most was the fact that they were so focused on me for so long without saying anything or moving to attack me.I decided to ignore them and keep walking, but to my surprise they quickly turned around and stalked me like an animal kept in a cage for too long. I decided that it was best not to look at them any more because if I did then I would probably end up paralyzed with fear. I wanted to run away, but my legs felt like they were glued to the ground. As I tried to move, I could feel the veins in my neck throbbing as if they were trying to break out of my skin. The sensation was one that I had never felt before.I stopped walking and looked over at them again. They stopped moving forward and just stared at me, keeping their distance as if they were waiting for something. There was a rumble from underneath the ground that made both me and them jump in surprise. A small crack appeared along the pavement near us and then a huge spray of dirt shot up into the air. I glanced at them and saw that they were in a crouched position, holding their hands towards the ground. When I looked back at the ground, I saw three large holes opening up from the pavement and down into the earth. The dirt from this hole erupted out of it in a huge eruption of dust and dirt that covered not only the holes but also our bodies. The smell was unbearable, but it didn't seem to bother me as much as my nose thought that it would. The smell of dirt was overwhelming, but I couldn't say anything about the smell coming from my own body because I knew that my nose was just playing tricks on me.
